The towns we cross

01 · 1h 30min
Noto
We reach Noto when the limestone is still warm from the night. The Cathedral of San Nicolò staircase is the first breath: 1693, Val di Noto earthquake, an entire city rebuilt from nothing. You walk Corso Vittorio Emanuele in twenty minutes, stopping where your eye calls you. The driver tells you about the palaces no guidebook mentions.

02 · 2h (lunch included)
Modica
In Modica, the Church of San Pietro is a theater of seventeenth-century sculptures facing the street. But the real reason we stop is the chocolate, cold-processed following a recipe Spaniards brought here from the Aztecs. A bar to taste while walking, a shop the driver knows by name — an hour is enough.

03 · 1h 30min
Ragusa Ibla
Ragusa Ibla is the old part, the one that rebuilt itself where it stood after the earthquake, while Ragusa Superiore was born on the plateau. The Cathedral of San Giorgio sits at the top of a square that watches itself. Here we leave you the time to lunch in peace, if you wish. We know a couple of places where ingredients come from the producers around.

04 · 1h
Scicli or Marzamemi (optional)
If the day is long and the light is still good, we can add Scicli — another Baroque capital, less touristic — or descend to Marzamemi for a seaside aperitivo before returning to Syracuse.
